Explore the Galactic Limited Express: Milky Subway
A particularly intriguing addition is Ginga Tokkyū Milky☆Subway Kakueki Teisha Gekijō Iki, the re-edited film for Yōhei Kameyama's Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express anime, streaming in the U.S. on June 1.
This film compiles the anime's original 12 episodes with exciting new content. The story plunges viewers into an intergalactic misadventure following super human Chiharu and cyborg Makina. After breaking space traffic laws, they find themselves sentenced to community service alongside a crew of diverse misfits, including the super human pair Akane and Kanata, and cyborg pals Kurt and Max. Their task? Cleaning up the interplanetary train known as the “Milky☆Subway.” What begins as a seemingly straightforward job takes a wild turn when the train unexpectedly rockets into deep space, plunging its unlikely crew into utter chaos.
The film promises a unique space-train spectacle, driven by pure momentum and devoid of conventional purpose or principle. Yōhei Kameyama, the creative force behind the project, directed, wrote, and produced the film, handling much of the character design, modeling, animation, and editing himself. Momoka Terasawa and Anna Nagase reprise their roles as Chiharu and Makina, respectively, ensuring continuity from the original anime. The film’s energetic atmosphere is underscored by the 1977 song “Gingakei Made Tonde Ike!” (Fly to the Galaxy!) by the girl group Candies, serving as its theme song. The Milky☆Subway concept originated as Kameyama's graduation project, Milky☆Highway short, in 2022, which garnered millions of views online, showcasing its unique appeal.
With these diverse and highly anticipated titles, Netflix is set to provide anime fans with plenty to stream and enjoy throughout the coming months.
