Gido Amagakure Debuts New Piano Themed Manga

New Series Tomoshibi Kara Sparkle Announced

The April issue of Kodansha's Good! Afternoon magazine officially unveiled the plans for Gido Amagakure's latest manga endeavor. This fresh series will carry the title Tomoshibi Kara Sparkle, which translates to The Sparkle From the Lamp. Gido Amagakure is slated to launch this new manga in the very next issue of the Good! Afternoon magazine. The anticipated release date for the inaugural chapter is April 7. This revelation regarding Gido Amagakure's new work was made public on March 6.

Story Centers on Piano and Family Bonds

The narrative of Tomoshibi Kara Sparkle focuses on the lives of an old lady and her granddaughter. The old lady is depicted as someone who diligently practices playing the piano. Despite her persistent efforts, she is characterized as being unskilled at the instrument. Her third grader granddaughter, named Mio, becomes a pivotal character in the story. Mio decides to run away from her own home and seeks refuge with her grandmother. Upon her arrival, Mio develops a profound curiosity about the sounds emanating from her grandmother's piano playing.

Sweetness and Lightning's Publication History

Gido Amagakure previously authored the manga series Sweetness and Lightning. This series is also known by its original title Amaama to Inazuma. The creator launched Sweetness and Lightning in 2013 within the pages of Kodansha's Good! Afternoon magazine. The serialization of Sweetness and Lightning concluded in August 2018. The complete narrative of this manga spanned a total of twelve volumes.

International Reach of Sweetness and Lightning

Kodansha USA Publishing played a significant role in bringing Sweetness and Lightning to English-speaking audiences. Initially, Kodansha USA Publishing released the manga digitally in English. Following its digital success, the company expanded to offer print releases of the series. Crunchyroll, a well-known streaming service, also published new chapters of Sweetness and Lightning. This occurred as Kodansha published them concurrently in Japan. However, Crunchyroll no longer hosts the catalog chapters of this particular manga. The series further inspired a twelve-episode anime adaptation. This anime premiered in July 2016 and was available for streaming on Crunchyroll.

A Galaxy Next Door's Serialization Journey

Another notable creation by Gido Amagakure is the manga A Galaxy Next Door. This series is known in its original form as Otonari ni Ginga. A Galaxy Next Door commenced its serialization in Good! Afternoon magazine in April 2020. Gido Amagakure brought A Galaxy Next Door to its conclusion in May 2023. An additional epilogue chapter for the manga was subsequently released in June 2023. Kodansha published the sixth and final volume of A Galaxy Next Door in July 2023.

A Galaxy Next Door's Global Audience and Adaptations

Kodansha USA Publishing also secured the license for A Galaxy Next Door for English readers. The sixth volume of the manga was licensed by Kodansha USA Publishing in May 2024. The story of A Galaxy Next Door was adapted into a television anime series. This anime premiered for viewers in April 2023. Crunchyroll facilitated the streaming of the anime as it aired in Japan, making it accessible to a wide international audience. Furthermore, Crunchyroll also provided an English dub for the A Galaxy Next Door anime, enhancing its appeal to diverse viewers.

Live-Action Adaptation for A Galaxy Next Door

The narrative of A Galaxy Next Door also extended its reach beyond manga and anime into live-action entertainment. The series inspired a live-action adaptation. This live-action series made its debut for audiences in April 2023.
