V-Storage officially announced the production of a pilot episode for Takaaki Suzuki's Girls und Panzer: Ribbon Warrior spin-off manga. The announcement, made on Sunday, provided comprehensive details regarding the production staff integral to bringing this new animated installment to life, alongside the reveal of a new pilot visual. This pilot episode is set to make its debut screening after the conclusion of the fourth and final part of the Girls und Panzer: Motto Lovey-Dovey Sakusen desu! movie series. Enthusiasts should mark their calendars for April 10, when this new chapter in the Girls und Panzer universe will be presented.

The Production Team Behind Ribbon Warrior's Pilot

A diverse and experienced team has been assembled to helm the pilot episode of Girls und Panzer: Ribbon Warrior. Morihito Abe takes on the role of Director, bringing his expertise from previous works, including an episode director position for Kidou Senshi Gundam: GQuuuuuuX. The script for the pilot episode is a collaborative effort by Takuya Miyashita, known for his work as director of photography on Monster Strike: Mermaid Rhapsody, and Youhei Penguin.

Original character designs are attributed to Humikane Shimada, a familiar name from the Girls und Panzer Movie, and Isao Sugimoto, who also contributed to the original Girls und Panzer series. Shuuhei Handa, recognized for character design in Spriggan ONA, is responsible for the character design of the pilot episode. Mechanical design falls under the purview of Takeshi Itou, whose previous contributions include Girls und Panzer: Kore ga Hontou no Anzio-sen desu!.

The visual aesthetic is further shaped by Art Director Satoru Hirayanagi, who worked on Youjo Senki, and Color Design by Sachiko Harada, credited for Girls und Panzer: Saishuushou Part 1. The intricate 3DCG elements are directed by Kenji Isobe, known for B: The Beginning, with LandQ studios handling the overall 3DCG production. Hiroyuki Chiba, with experience as Director of Photography for Astro Note, oversees the cinematography. Kumiko Sakamoto, whose editing work includes Takopii no Genzai, is in charge of editing.

The auditory landscape of the pilot episode is crafted by Shuuhei Mutsuki, the composer behind Lycoris Recoil, with Lantis managing the music production. Sound direction is provided by Yoshikazu Iwanami, whose credits include Psycho-Pass Movie 2: Providence. Yasumasa Koyama is responsible for sound effects, notably from Towa no Yuugure. Recording adjustment is handled by Shiori Saito, who also worked on Girls und Panzer: Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu!. The animation studio responsible for the pilot episode is Actas.

The Manga's Journey from Page to Screen

The Girls und Panzer: Ribbon Warrior spin-off manga, from which this pilot episode is adapted, commenced serialization in Comic Flapper magazine in September 2014. Takaaki Suzuki is the author of the story, with illustrations provided by Takeshi Nogami. The manga concluded its run with Kadokawa publishing its sixteenth and final volume in April 2021, marking the end of its printed narrative. The transition to an animated pilot episode represents a new medium for this particular storyline within the broader Girls und Panzer universe.

A Rich History in the Girls und Panzer Franchise

The Girls und Panzer franchise boasts a considerable history of animated productions. The original Girls und Panzer television anime first premiered in 12 episodes during the Fall 2012 season. Following the success of the television series, the Girls und Panzer Movie, also known as Girls und Panzer der Film, was released in November 2015, expanding the narrative and world of Senshado.

The ongoing Girls und Panzer: Saishuushou movie series, also known as Girls und Panzer das Finale, is planned as a six-part cinematic event. The first four parts have already premiered in Japan, with Part 1 opening in December 2017, Part 2 in June 2019, Part 3 in March 2021, and Part 4 in October 2023. The eagerly anticipated fifth part, Girls und Panzer: Saishuushou Part 5, is scheduled to premiere in Japanese theaters on October 9.

In addition to the main series, the Girls und Panzer: Motto Lovey-Dovey Sakusen desu! spin-off movie series, comprising four parts, has also seen releases. This series reportedly opened in Japan in December 2025. The third and latest part of this spin-off series opened on March 6. The upcoming fourth and final part of this particular spin-off series is slated for its screening on April 10, preceding the Girls und Panzer: Ribbon Warrior pilot episode.

The World of Tankathlon

The synopsis for Girls und Panzer: Ribbon Warrior introduces a new tank sport known as Tankathlon. This sport is steadily gaining traction among enthusiasts of Senshado, the traditional tankery art. While also involving tank battles, Tankathlon distinguishes itself through several key characteristics. It operates with a notable lack of official oversight, which allows any school possessing tanks to engage in a battle virtually anywhere at any given time, providing a sense of freedom and spontaneity to the sport. A crucial rule of Tankathlon is its 10-ton weight restriction on tanks used. This limitation effectively narrows participation to light tanks and tankettes, fostering unique tactical approaches and emphasizing agility over sheer firepower.

Further Production Details

The pilot episode of Girls und Panzer: Ribbon Warrior is produced by the animation studio Actas, which has a long-standing relationship with the Girls und Panzer franchise. Musical contributions are managed by Lantis, a known entity in anime music production. The 3DCG aspects are handled by LandQ studios, reflecting the blend of traditional animation and computer-generated imagery in modern anime production. These elements combine to realize the vision for this new spin-off.
