The television anime adaptation of Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori, known in English as Red River, has recently shared significant updates regarding its production. The official website for the upcoming series released these announcements on a Tuesday, unveiling the core voice cast, several key members of the additional staff, details about the opening theme, and a new teaser promotional video. This upcoming anime series is based on Chie Shinohara's adventure fantasy manga. Viewers can look forward to its premiere in July 2026. The series is set to broadcast across NTV and BS NTV channels.

The main voice cast for the Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori anime has been officially introduced. Taking on the role of Yuri Suzuki is Mirai Tachibana, an artist known for their work in Idoly Pride. The character of Kail Mursili will be brought to life by Wataru Katou. Katou has previously lent their voice to projects such as Kimi no Koto ga Daidaidaidaidaisuki na 100-nin no Kanojo. Additionally, the anime will feature Hiroki Nanami, who will serve as both the Narrator and the voice of Himuro. Nanami's past performances include a role in Sengoku Youko. The anime draws its inspiration from Chie Shinohara's historical drama shoujo manga. This original manga began its serialization in Sho-Comi magazine in January 1995. The series continued its run for several years, concluding in June 2002. Shogakukan published the 28th and final volume of the manga in July of the same year. Following its initial release, the series was reprinted in a paperback edition format. This reprint consisted of 16 volumes, which were released between October 2006 and May 2007. The manga has established a significant presence through its narrative and artwork over the years.

International Manga Availability

The adventure fantasy manga has also reached an international audience. VIZ Media acquired the English license for the manga in February 2004. Subsequently, the company embarked on publishing all 28 volumes of the series in English, a process that spanned from June 2004 to January 2010. More recently, VIZ Media commenced the release of 3-in-1 omnibus editions of the manga. These larger format volumes started shipping in October 2024. The sixth omnibus volume was released on January 20, providing a new way for readers to experience the story.
