This development brings the distinctive narrative back to screens with a global reach.
Global Streaming Access for Dorohedoro
Crunchyroll is making Dorohedoro accessible to a broad international audience. The first season is currently available with a range of dubbed language options, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Thai, catering to viewers across the globe. For those who prefer the original audio experience, Japanese audio is provided with subtitles in all regions except Japan and China. The upcoming second season is scheduled to premiere on Wednesday, April 1, at 11:00 p.m. Pacific Time, which corresponds to 10:00 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time. This new season aims for an almost simultaneous worldwide release across various platforms.
Returning and New Key Staff Members
The production of the second season sees a consistent creative team, with most of the staff from the first season returning to their roles. Yuichiro Hayashi, known for his directorial work on titles such as Garo the Animation and Kakegurui, is once again directing the new season at the animation studio MAPPA. Tomohiro Kishi, who previously contributed to 91 Days and Garo -Vanishing Line-, is also returning as the character designer for the upcoming episodes. There are some notable updates to the staff as well: Miho Sugiura has taken on the role of art director for the new season, and Itsuku Onishi has been promoted to the position of color key artist. This combination of returning talent and new additions promises a fresh yet familiar aesthetic.
An Engaging Narrative Continues
The Dorohedoro series plunges viewers into a stark and unforgiving world. In a desolate locale known simply as "the Hole," Sorcerers engage in dark experiments, abducting people from the streets to serve as unwilling subjects. The story centers on Caiman, a man with a reptilian head suffering from amnesia, who was discovered in a dark alley by Nikaido. Their shared goal is to reverse the spell that transformed Caiman, leading them on a quest to hunt down and eliminate Sorcerers in the Hole, hoping to eventually find the one responsible for Caiman's condition. This escalating conflict catches the attention of En, the formidable head Sorcerer. Upon learning of a lizard-man slaughtering his people, En dispatches a specialized crew of "cleaners" into the Hole, igniting an intense war between two distinct worlds and their inhabitants.
The Path to the Second Season
The announcement of Dorohedoro's second season debuting in April marks a significant moment, especially considering its previous scheduling. The new season was initially projected to premiere in 2025. This earlier arrival offers fans an earlier continuation of the dark fantasy storyline. The first anime season, which laid the groundwork for this universe, was directed by Yuichiro Hayashi at MAPPA. Hiroshi Seko, recognized for his work on series scripts for Banana Fish, Mob Psycho 100, and Vinland Saga, was responsible for the series scripts. Tomohiro Kishi handled the character designs, and the musical score was composed by [K]NoW_NAME, known for their contributions to Sakura Quest and Fairy gone.
Recalling Season One's Initial Release
The journey of the Dorohedoro anime began with its first season premiering on Netflix in Japan. This initial release occurred in January 2020 and consisted of 12 episodes, introducing the series to a Japanese audience. Following its domestic debut, Netflix extended the streaming availability of the first season to regions outside Japan in May 2020. This allowed a wider international viewership to discover the unique blend of action, mystery, and dark humor that defines Dorohedoro. The subsequent availability of season one on Crunchyroll now paves the way for the much-anticipated return of the series.
