The World of Violet Evergarden
Violet Evergarden began as a series of novels written by Kana Akatsuki and illustrated by Akiko Takase. The novels were adapted into a television anime by Kyoto Animation, premiering in Japan and on Netflix in select territories in January 2018. The anime quickly gained popularity for its beautiful animation, emotional storytelling, and memorable characters. It launched on Netflix in the United States in April 2018.
The franchise has also expanded beyond the original television series. A side-story anime, titled Violet Evergarden I: Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll, was released in Japanese theaters in September 2019. The film was a commercial success, earning over 641 million yen during its run. Netflix made the side-story available in April 2020.
In September 2020, Violet Evergarden: The Movie was released in Japan. The film debuted at number two at the box office and was notable for being the first new Japanese anime film to be screened in Dolby Cinema locations. Netflix began streaming the film in October 2021.
The Anime's Composer
Evan Call, known for his work on Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, served as the composer and arranger for the anime. His musical compositions perfectly complement the story's themes of love, loss, and self-discovery.
