Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness Coming to Nintendo Switch 2

Fans of the Pokémon franchise have reason to celebrate. During the Pokémon Presents livestream on Pokémon Day, it was announced that Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness will be available on the Nintendo Switch 2 through the "Nintendo GameCube - Nintendo Classics" service in March. This announcement brings a beloved classic to a new generation of players.

A Classic Reborn

Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, originally released for the GameCube in 2005, is a 3D role-playing spinoff that captivated players with its unique gameplay and engaging story. The game challenges players to capture Shadow Pokémon from the nefarious Cipher organization. Players will eventually encounter the powerful Shadow Lugia.

Return to Orre

The game is set in the Orre region, a location familiar to those who played its predecessor, Pokémon Colosseum. Orre's distinctive desert landscape and compelling narrative set it apart from the main series Pokémon games. The return to this region on the Nintendo Switch 2 offers a nostalgic trip for long-time fans.

Nintendo GameCube - Nintendo Classics Service

The addition of Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness to the "Nintendo GameCube - Nintendo Classics" service is a significant moment for Nintendo Switch 2 owners. The initial announcement for this service in April 2025 hinted at the arrival of both Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, generating considerable excitement among fans.

Pokémon Colosseum Awaits

While Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness has a confirmed release window, the release date for Pokémon Colosseum on Nintendo Switch Online remains unannounced. Fans are eagerly awaiting news about when they can revisit this other GameCube classic.

Looking Ahead: Pokémon Winds/Waves

Beyond the GameCube classics, the Pokémon Presents stream also offered a glimpse into the future of the franchise. The new Pokémon Winds/Waves games are slated to launch worldwide for Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. This announcement provides a long-term outlook for Pokémon fans.
