Tax-Funded Tales: Anime and Live-Action Adaptations of "Books Bought with Tax" Announced

Kodansha, a well-known publishing company, has revealed exciting news for fans of Zuino's "Books Bought with Tax" manga. The manga is set to receive both a television anime adaptation and a live-action drama adaptation. This announcement was made public on Friday alongside a promotional visual that captures the essence of the manga.

Live-Action Drama Details

The live-action drama is scheduled to air on NHK General TV during the summer of 2026, with episodes airing from 10:45 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Daiken Okudaira, recognized for his role in "Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia," will star in the drama.

Live-Action Production Team

The production team behind the live-action drama includes Tomoki Sakanashi ("Saraba, yoki hi") and Hiroyuki Muramatsu ("Kurohyou") as directors. Riko Sakaguchi ("Mary to Majo no Hana") is penning the script, while Kei Yoshikawa ("Koroshi Ai") is composing the music. Saki Kawada (Tosaka Planning), known for her work on "Ansatsu kyoushitsu," is serving as producer. The executive producers are Setsuko Uchimaru (Tosaka Planning), who worked on "Akira to Akira," and Ritsutoki Kumano (NHK), recognized for "Hirayasumi."

Manga's Journey

Zuino began serializing the workplace manga in Young Magazine Web in August 2021. Later, in December 2021, the manga transitioned to Weekly Young Magazine, with illustrations by Kei Keiyama. Kodansha released the 18th volume of the manga on February 6.

Synopsis of "Books Bought with Tax"

The story centers around Ishidaira, a delinquent who finds himself at the library for the first time since his elementary school days. He discovers that he still has an overdue book from 10 years prior. To settle his debt, he is forced to take on a part-time job at the library. This experience marks the beginning of a transformative journey for Ishidaira, one that might inspire readers to visit their local library.
