The World's Strongest Rearguard Anime Adaptation Announced

The television anime adaptation of Touwa Akatsuki's "Sekai Saikyou no Kouei: Meikyuukoku no Shinjin Tansakusha" light novel, also known as "The World's Strongest Rearguard: Labyrinth Country's Novice Seeker," is officially in the works. Fans of the action fantasy series can look forward to its premiere in July 2026.

Main Cast Unveiled

The official website has revealed the main voice cast who will be bringing the beloved characters to life. Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, known for his role in "Sword Art Online," will be voicing the protagonist, Arihito. Theresia will be voiced by Aoi Koga, recognized for her work in "Dekoboko Majo no Oyako Jijou." Elitia will be portrayed by Yui Ishikawa, who also starred in "Kanpekisugite Kawaige ga Nai to Konyaku Haki sareta Seijo wa Ringoku ni Urareru." Saori Hayami, famous for her role in "Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka," will be voicing Suzuna. Lastly, Kyouka will be played by Sakura Nakamura, known for her work in "Kami-tachi ni Hirowareta Otoko 2nd Season."

Production Staff Details

The anime adaptation is being brought to life by a talented team of individuals. Yuuji Yanase, who directed "Isekai Mokushiroku Mynoghra," will be taking on the role of director. Deko Akao, known for their work on "Ragna Crimson," will be handling the series composition. The main character design is being crafted by Eriko Yanagimoto, who also worked on "Fujimoto Tatsuki 17-26." The animation production is being handled by Maho Film.

Light Novel and Manga Origins

Touwa Akatsuki initially began publishing the action fantasy novel on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in April 2017. Kadokawa picked up the series and began publishing it with illustrations by Huuka Kazabana in November 2017. The ninth volume of the light novel was published in September 2025. Rikizou began drawing a manga adaptation on the ComicWalker platform in March 2018, with Kadokawa shipping the tenth volume on January 23.

English Release by Yen Press

For fans eager to experience the series in English, Yen Press has licensed both the manga and light novel for release. They began their English release in March 2019. The eighth manga volume was released on July 22, with the ninth volume slated for release on May 26. The eighth light novel volume was published in June 2023.
