OceanVeil Streams Scum's Wish Anime

Scum's Wish Finds New Streaming Home on OceanVeil

WWWave Corporation's anime streaming platform, OceanVeil, has announced the addition of the anime adaptation of Mengo Yokoyari's popular manga, Scum's Wish, to its catalog. This news offers a fresh avenue for fans to access the series, which has experienced a somewhat complex streaming history.

A Shifting Landscape of Streaming Rights

The availability of Scum's Wish has seen changes across different platforms. Amazon Prime Video previously hosted the series but removed it from its United States service back in 2021. While the series listing remains on the website, it is currently unavailable for streaming through that particular service. HIDIVE also streamed the anime twice, once in February 2021 and again in June 2023, but has since removed it from its offerings as well.

Prime Video's Initial Role

Originally, Amazon Prime Video played a significant role in the anime's release. Scum's Wish premiered in Japan on both Amazon Prime Video and Fuji TV's Noitamina programming block in January 2017. Amazon Prime Video held exclusive streaming rights for the anime both in Japan and internationally, including in the United States, where it was part of the now-defunct Anime Strike service.

Physical Release and English Dub

Despite the changes in streaming availability, Sentai Filmworks released the series on Blu-ray Disc in 2018. This release included an English dub, providing fans with an alternative way to experience the series.

Manga Origins and Spinoff

Mengo Yokoyari's Scum's Wish manga was serialized in Square Enix's Big Gangan magazine from 2012 until March 2017. The series was compiled into eight volumes by Square Enix. In addition to the main series, a spinoff manga titled Scum's Wish décor was launched in Big Gangan in November 2017, concluding in May 2018. This spinoff was also compiled into a single volume and released as the ninth volume of Scum's Wish in July 2018.

Digital and Print Publication

For English-speaking audiences, Crunchyroll initially published Scum's Wish digitally. Yen Press later published the series in print in North America. Crunchyroll also simultaneously published Scum's Wish décor digitally alongside its Japanese release.

Live-Action Adaptation

The manga's popularity led to a live-action series adaptation. Further details about the live-action series are not included in this article.

Source of Information

The information regarding OceanVeil's acquisition of the streaming rights for Scum's Wish comes from the platform's official X/Twitter account. This provides a verifiable source for the announcement.
