Anime Adaptation Announced for "The Laid-Off Cheat-Granting Mage Enjoys a New Life"

Shochiku has revealed that Asa Rokushima's manga series, "The Laid-Off Cheat-Granting Mage Enjoys a New Life: I Can Add 'Enhancement Points' Not Just to Weapons but to Anything, and I Can Cancel the Effects Whenever I Want, but Are the People Left Behind Going to Be Okay?" is receiving a television anime adaptation. A super teaser promo and teaser visual have been released to commemorate the announcement.

Production Details

P.A. Works, the animation studio renowned for its work on series like "Skip and Loafer," "Ya Boy Kongming!," and "Shirobako," is set to handle the anime production. This announcement has generated excitement among fans familiar with P.A. Works' reputation for high-quality animation and engaging storytelling.

Original Work and Publication History

Asa Rokushima began publishing the adventure fantasy story on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in January 2021. The manga adaptation, illustrated by Youmochi Gyoumu, started serialization in Shounen Magazine R in October of the same year. Following Shounen Magazine R's discontinuation, the manga moved to the Getsumaga Kichi web manga portal in March 2023. Kodansha is scheduled to release the 19th volume of the manga on February 9. The series boasts a cumulative circulation of 1.3 million copies, including digital editions.

Light Novel Adaptation

In addition to the manga, a light novel adaptation of "The Laid-Off Cheat-Granting Mage Enjoys a New Life" has been published under Kodansha's K Ranobe Book label. The light novel features illustrations by kisui. The first volume was released in January 2022, with the second volume following in October 2022.

Synopsis

The story revolves around Rein, an enchanter whose magic allows him to enhance equipment. He is abruptly dismissed from his guild under the pretense that all of the guild's gear has already been sufficiently enhanced. Indignant at this unjust treatment, Rein decides to reclaim the substantial amount of mana he invested in the equipment. On a whim, he channels this mana into a random copper sword, transforming it into a cheat-level weapon possessing 10,000 enhancement points.

Despite lacking combat experience, Rein is now equipped with the ability to transform anything into overpowered gear. This enchanter embarks on a new, carefree life as an adventurer, wielding his unique magic to navigate the world.
