Chainsmoker Cat Anime Adaptation Announced

The official website for the television anime adaptation of Nyannyan Factorys Chainsmoker Cat manga opened on Monday, revealing key details about the project. Fans can anticipate the premiere in July 2026, airing on Tokyo MX and other stations.

Key Staff and Cast Revealed

Yuuko Natsuyoshi, known for roles in Chou Kaguya-hime! and Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha, will voice the main character, Yani Neko. Taku Kimura of Studio Lemon, recognized for work on Star Wars: Visions - Tatooine Rhapsody and Kairyuu to Yuubinyasan, will direct the anime. Takashi Aoshima, known for scripts on Kimi no Koto ga Daidaidaidaidaisuki na 100-nin no Kanojo and Kakushigoto, is in charge of the script. Riki Matsuura, who contributed to Chainsaw Man Movie: Reze-hen as a creature designer and served as a main animator for Enen no Shouboutai, will handle character design. Keiichi Suzuki, credited for music in No.6 and Tokyo Godfathers, will compose the score. Bibury Animation Studios will produce the animation.

Manga Origins and Publication

Nyannyan Factory initially shared the Chainsmoker Cat comedy manga series on X in November 2022. Kodansha began publishing the series through Young Magazine in February 2023. The tenth volume was released in November 2025, and the 11th volume is scheduled for release on February 6.

International Release

Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the manga in February 2025 and released the first volume on December 9. The second volume is scheduled to go on sale on March 17.

Awards and Recognition

Chainsmoker Cat ranked 12th in the print category for the 2023 Next Manga Awards. It also ranked 18th in the Male Readers category of the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2024 Rankings.

Synopsis

Yani is a catgirl characterized by a prominent smoking habit. Her apartment is filled with cigarette butts and trash, reflecting her addiction. Despite her attempts to quit, she quickly succumbs to cravings. The story explores whether she can overcome her habits or remain a chainsmoking slob.
