Blue Lock Live-Action Film Reveals More Cast Members
The upcoming live-action film adaptation of the popular soccer manga Blue Lock, written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura, has announced two new additions to its cast. The announcements were made via the film's official X/Twitter account over the past two days, further building anticipation for the movie's release.
Ishikawa and Iwanaga Join the Team
On Monday, the production team revealed that Raizo Ishikawa will be portraying the character of Jingo Raichi. Ishikawa's casting brings another key player from the Blue Lock universe to life. Following this announcement, on Tuesday, it was revealed that Joey Iwanaga would be joining the cast as Okuhito Iemon. Iwanaga is known for his roles in the live-action Rurouni Kenshin Saishusho The Final and Tokyo Tribe.
Daily Character Reveals
The Blue Lock film's social media account has been steadily unveiling new characters each day, creating a buzz among fans. A previous visual released by the team showcased the eyes of the twelve members of Team Z, hinting at the ensemble cast that audiences can expect. These daily reveals keep the excitement high.
Previously Announced Cast
Prior to these announcements, several other cast members had already been revealed. Fumiya Takahashi will play the protagonist, Yoichi Isagi. Kaito Sakurai will be taking on the role of Meguru Bachira. Kyōhei Takahashi is set to portray Hyoma Chigiri. Kōta Nomura will play Rensuke Kunigami. Yuzu Aoki will be bringing Gurimu Igarashi to life. Shō Nishigaki has been cast as Asahi Naruhaya. Lastly, Yūki Tachibana will be playing Gin Gagamaru. This talented group of actors will form the core of the Blue Lock team.
Release Date and Production Team
The live-action Blue Lock film is scheduled to premiere in Japan in the summer of 2026. Yusuke Taki is directing the film. The screenplay is being written by Tetsuo Kamata. Shinzo Matsuhashi is serving as a producer. CREDEUS, the production company behind the live-action Golden Kamuy film, is producing the Blue Lock movie. TOHO is responsible for distributing the film.
About the Blue Lock Manga
Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura launched the Blue Lock manga in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine in August 2018. The manga has been a significant success, with Kodansha publishing the 37th compiled book volume on January 16. In 2021, the manga was recognized with the Best Shōnen Manga award at Kodansha's 45th annual Manga Awards.
English Release
Kodansha USA Publishing is releasing the Blue Lock manga in English, both digitally and in print. This makes the series accessible to a wider audience outside of Japan. The company describes the story as follows: "After a disastrous defeat at the 2018 World Cup, Japan's team struggles to regroup. But what's missing? An absolute Ace Striker, who can guide them to the win. The Japan Football Union is hell-bent on creating a striker who hungers for goals and thirsts for victory, and who can be the decisive instrument in turning around a losing match...and to do so, they've gathered 300 of Japan's best and brightest youth players. Anime Adaptations
The Blue Lock manga has also inspired a successful television anime series. The first season premiered in Japan in October 2022 on TV Asahi and its affiliates in the NUMAnimation programming block. The anime ran for 24 episodes. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired, and also offers an English dub. BLUE LOCK vs. U-20 JAPAN, the second television anime season, debuted in October 2024 and aired for 14 episodes. Crunchyroll streamed this season as well.
Upcoming Anime Season
Fans of the Blue Lock anime have more to look forward to. A third season is currently in development, which will adapt the "Shin Eiyu Taisen" (New Hero Wars) story arc. This announcement has generated considerable excitement within the anime community.
Blue Lock -Episode Nagi- Spinoff
In addition to the main series, there is also a manga spinoff titled BLUE LOCK -Episode Nagi- by Kōta Sannomiya. This spinoff focuses on Seishiro Nagi before he enters the Blue Lock facility. The manga launched in June 2022 in Kodansha's Bessatsu Shonen Magazine and concluded in July 2025. Kodansha USA Publishing is also releasing the spinoff manga in print.
Episode Nagi Anime Film
The Episode Nagi spinoff also inspired an anime film, which premiered in Japan in April 2024. The film was a box office success, selling 337,000 tickets and earning 463 million yen (approximately US$2.99 million) in its first three days. It ranked at #2 in the Japanese box office during its opening weekend. The film opened in North America in June 2024, and Crunchyroll is streaming it with subtitles and multiple dubs.
