Anime Adaptation Announced for "The Principle of a Philosopher by Eternal Fool Asley"

Bushiroad Move has revealed plans to adapt Hifumi's light novel series, "Yuukyuu no Gusha Asley no, Kenja no Susume," into a television anime. A teaser visual has been released to commemorate the announcement, offering a first glimpse into the world of Asley and his adventures.

Origins of the Story

The original story began as a web novel on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in January 2015, penned by the author Hifumi. Its popularity led to Earth Star Entertainment acquiring the rights to publish it under their Earth Star Novels imprint. The light novel series featured illustrations by Kurihito Mutou, bringing the characters and world to life. The series spanned fourteen volumes, concluding its run in December 2019.

Manga Adaptation and its Progress

Fuu Araki took on the task of adapting the light novel into a manga series, which began serialization on the Comic Earth Star platform in April 2017. The manga has also enjoyed considerable success, with twelve volumes currently available as of June 2025. The thirteenth volume is slated for release on February 12, continuing the story for fans of the visual medium.

English Release of the Manga

J-Novel Club recognized the potential of the manga and licensed it for digital release in English, making it accessible to a wider international audience starting in April 2024. They have diligently released volumes, with the seventh volume appearing in December 2025, and the eighth volume scheduled for release on March 25, allowing English-speaking fans to follow Asley's journey.

Synopsis of the Story

The story revolves around Asley, who inadvertently creates a divine elixir known as the "Eternity Elixir." This elixir grants him immortality, freeing him from the constraints of time. With this newfound eternity, Asley dedicates himself to research, spending five thousand years mastering a vast array of spells and magical arts. This extensive study transforms him into an extraordinary mage capable of wielding powerful ancient magic that has long been forgotten.

Driven by a desire to expand his horizons, Asley embarks on a journey alongside his loyal familiar, Pochi. However, his peaceful, wandering existence takes an unexpected turn after a simple act of kindness. This event sets the stage for an unconventional youth fantasy that transcends the boundaries of time, telling the tale of a five-thousand-year-old young man and his eight-hundred-year-old canine companion.

The story promises a unique blend of fantasy and humor, as Asley and Pochi navigate the world, showcasing their incredible strength while often finding themselves slightly out of sync.
