Aniplex Appoints International Business Head Shu Nishimoto as New President

Aniplex Announces Leadership Transition: Nishimoto to Succeed Iwakami
Sony Music Entertainment has revealed a significant leadership change at Aniplex, one of its key subsidiaries. Shu Nishimoto will take over as Representative Director and President of Aniplex on April 1, replacing Atsuhiro Iwakami. Iwakami, in turn, will transition to the role of Representative Director and Chair of Aniplex.
Iwakami's Promotion to Sony Music Entertainment
This change comes as Sony Music Entertainment announced earlier this month that Atsuhiro Iwakami would be promoted to President and Representative Director of its board, effective April 1. He will also assume the positions of Group CEO and Business Group CEO in charge of visual and character business within Sony Music Entertainment. This promotion reflects Iwakami's significant contributions to Aniplex and his expertise in the animation and entertainment industry.
Nishimoto and Ochikoshi to Become Executive Officers
In addition to Nishimoto's appointment as Aniplex's President, both Nishimoto and Tomonori Ochikoshi, an Aniplex board director and Executive Vice President, will also serve as Executive Officers at Sony Music Entertainment. This move further integrates Aniplex's leadership into the broader Sony Music Entertainment structure, fostering collaboration and synergy across the organization.
Nishimoto's Background and Achievements
Shu Nishimoto brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He joined Aniplex in 2009 and later transferred to Aniplex of America in 2014, where he served as President starting in 2017. He became an Executive Officer of Aniplex in 2022. Throughout his career, Nishimoto has been an Executive Producer for numerous successful Aniplex titles, including those in the Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Fate/stay night, and Sword Art Online franchises. His deep understanding of the animation market and his track record of producing hit anime series make him well-suited to lead Aniplex into the future.
Iwakami's Legacy at Aniplex
Atsuhiro Iwakami has been a driving force behind Aniplex's success. As Producer and Head of Aniplex, he has been instrumental in many of the company's productions, including the blockbuster anime film Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba The Movie Mugen Train. He has also been involved in recent Fate/Grand Order tie-in anime, such as the Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front Babylonia television anime and the Fate/Grand Order The Movie Divine Realm of the Round Table Camelot anime films. Iwakami's contributions to the industry were recognized in 2021 when he was awarded the Shin Watanabe award by the Watanabe Foundation for Music & Culture of the Watanabe Production company, in honor of promoting the development of pop culture. His leadership has helped establish Aniplex as a major player in the global animation market.
A New Chapter for Aniplex
With Nishimoto at the helm and Iwakami transitioning to a new role within Sony Music Entertainment, Aniplex is poised for continued growth and innovation. The company's strong portfolio of anime properties, combined with its experienced leadership team, positions it well to capitalize on the increasing global demand for anime content. This leadership transition marks an exciting new chapter for Aniplex as it continues to shape the future of the animation industry.
