Sakamoto Days Live-Action Film Announces More Cast Members

The upcoming live-action film adaptation of Yuuto Suzuki's popular manga series, Sakamoto Days, has revealed additional cast members. A new video released on Friday showcased the actors who will portray assassins from the Order organization.

New Additions to the Assassin Roster

Takumi Kitamura, known for his roles in live-action adaptations of Tokyo Revengers, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Let Me Eat Your Pancreas, will play Nagumo. Yusei Yagi, who starred in the live-action Yano-kun no Futsu no Hibi, will portray Shishiba. Meru Nukumi, recognized for her work in My Hero Academia: You're Next and the live-action Sexy Tanaka-san, will take on the role of Osaragi.

Release Date and Main Cast

The Sakamoto Days film is scheduled to premiere in Japan on April 29. Ren Meguro, a member of the group Snow Man, stars as the protagonist, Taro Sakamoto. Fumiya Takahashi will play Shin Asakura. Aya Ueto portrays Taro Sakamoto's wife, Aoi Sakamoto, while Miyu Yoshimoto plays their daughter, Hana Sakamoto. The cast also includes Mayu Yokota as Lu Shaotang, Junki Tozuka as Heisuke Mashimo, Akihisa Shiono as Kashima, and Keisuke Watanabe as Natsuki Seiba.

Production Team

Yuichi Fukuda, known for his work on live-action adaptations of Gintama and Under Ninja, is directing and writing the script. Fukuda has stated that the editing process is complete, and he believes the film is ready for release despite the lack of computer-generated imagery and music. Keiya Tabuchi, who worked on Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time, the live-action Attack on Titan, and Kamen Rider Amazons, is the action director. CREDEUS is producing the film in collaboration with Avex Pictures.

Manga Origins and Story

Yuuto Suzuki's Sakamoto Days began as a one-shot titled "Sakamoto" in Jump Giga in December 2019. The main manga series launched in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in November 2020. The manga entered its "final battle" in August 2025.

Viz Media and MANGA Plus are publishing the manga in English digitally, with Viz also releasing it in print. MANGA Plus provides the following description of the story:

Taro Sakamoto was the ultimate assassin, feared by villains and admired by hitmen. But one day...he fell in love! Retirement, marriage, fatherhood and then... Sakamoto gained weight! The chubby guy who runs the neighborhood store is actually a former legendary hitman! Can he protect his family from danger? Get ready to experience a new kind of action comedy series!

Spinoff and Novels

A spinoff manga series titled Sakamoto Holidays launched in Shueisha's Saikyo Jump magazine in July 2024. Tetsu Okawa, an assistant on the main manga, is illustrating the spinoff. The main manga also inspired a novel in April 2023, with a second novel released in December 2024.

Anime Adaptation

The anime adaptation of Sakamoto Days premiered on TV Tokyo and affiliated channels in January 2025, simultaneously debuting on Netflix. The first part consisted of 11 episodes. The second part premiered in July 2025 on TV Tokyo and affiliated channels, with the first episode streaming in advance on Netflix. The 12th episode was streamed concurrently with the Japanese TV broadcast. The anime will have a second season.

Puzzle Game

In addition to the manga and anime, Sakamoto Days has also inspired a smartphone puzzle game, which launched in April 2025.
