Keiji Inafune's comcept Game Company Announces Dissolution

Level5 comcept Dissolved After Inafune's Departure
The Japanese government's official gazette, Kanpo, announced on January 29 that video game development company comcept has been dissolved. This decision was finalized during a general shareholder's meeting held on January 13.
Level-5 had already dissolved LEVEL5 comcept, the successor to the original company, in May 2025. This followed the departure of founder Keiji Inafune in mid-2024. Prior to the dissolution, Level 5's Osaka Office briefly took over the business operations of LEVEL5 comcept in March 2025.
Inafune's Legacy: From Mega Man to comcept
Keiji Inafune, a former developer at CAPCOM and the creator of the iconic Mega Man franchise, established comcept in 2010. The company went on to develop titles such as Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, Kaio: King of Pirates, Soul Sacrifice, and Mighty No. 9. Mighty No. 9 was intended as a spiritual successor to Inafune's Mega Man series. comcept also had plans for Red Ash: The Indelible Legend, another spiritual successor, this time to the Mega Man Legends games, but this project was ultimately never released.
Acquisition and Transformation
Level 5 acquired comcept in 2017. Following the acquisition, comcept closed its Tokyo office and consolidated its operations in Osaka. The company was subsequently renamed LEVEL5 comcept. Under Level 5, LEVEL5 comcept served as a support developer for other Level 5 games. It was also the primary developer of Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time. Keiji Inafune left the company in mid-2024, during the development of this game.
