The Gripping World of Psyren Unveiled
Psyren introduces high schooler Ageha Yoshina, whose ordinary life takes a drastic turn after finding a peculiar "red phone card." When his childhood friend Sakurako Amamiya—who possessed a similar card—vanishes, Ageha is drawn into a nationwide string of mysterious disappearances. His quest leads him into the heart of Psyren, initiating a deadly game where survival hinges on understanding and wielding psychic powers. Players are transported to a desolate, future-dystopian world, confronting terrifying creatures and deadly challenges while seeking the truth and a way back home. The anime will fully adapt the manga, offering a complete narrative for both long-time fans and newcomers.
The Creative Minds Behind the Adaptation
The Psyren anime is brought to life by a seasoned production team at Satelight. Katsumi Ono, known for Symphogear AXZ and Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, directs the series. Shin Yoshida (Naruto Shippūden, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's) oversees series scripts, ensuring a faithful adaptation. Character designs are by Akira Ōkuma (Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus, Demon Lord, Retry! R). The musical score is a collaborative effort by Takashi Ōmama (Mobile Suit Gundam Twilight AXIS), Tatsuhiko Saiki (My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!), and Shū Kanematsu (The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses).
Dynamic Themes to Set the Tone
CLAN QUEEN performs the electrifying opening theme, "Warning!!", perfectly setting the stage for the perilous journey. Who-ya Extended delivers the poignant ending theme, "ICARUS," offering a reflective close that resonates with the series' themes of struggle and hope. These musical selections enhance the anime's immersive atmosphere.
A Legacy from Weekly Shonen Jump
Toshiaki Iwashiro's Psyren first captivated readers in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump from 2007 to 2010. It garnered a dedicated following for its unique blend of sci-fi, horror, and action, compelling characters, and complex world-building. Viz Media released all 16 volumes in English from 2011 to 2014.
