Mugiko Launches New Manga Adaptation
Anime and manga fans, get ready! Mugiko, celebrated for their unique art style, is launching a new manga adaptation of Yu Hibari's popular light novel, "Kokō na Kanojo to, Kanojo no Heya de Shiteru Koto." This exciting new series will debut in Kadokawa's Comic Alive magazine on June 27. Mark your calendars for this highly anticipated release.
"Kokō na Kanojo": Unveiling a Secret Romance
The new manga introduces an intriguing pair: Kotori Nabata, known as the beautiful "ice queen," and Takumi Hashio, an introverted classmate. Despite sharing a classroom, they never speak. Yet, a secret ritual connects them. Kotori invites Takumi to her home for a peculiar "routine": they press their bodies together, without speaking or kissing. Takumi dutifully complies.
The truth behind this unusual arrangement is revealing. Kotori is not cold; she is as introverted as Takumi. This "routine" is her way of training to overcome her fear of physical contact, aspiring to become an extrovert. Her role model is Ei, an admired upperclassman whose natural influence draws both Kotori and Takumi into his orbit, leading them to assist with odd jobs. This story promises a deep dive into self-discovery and an unconventional romance. Yu Hibari's original light novel, illustrated by Nakaba Mimori, was released in August 2025 by Kadokawa's Sneaker Bunko.
Mugiko's Established Track Record
Mugiko is well-known for their manga adaptation of "The Detective Is Already Dead" (Tantei wa Mō, Shindeiru) light novel series by Nigojū and Umibōzu. Also published in Comic Alive, this adaptation ran from May 2020 to October 2023, concluding with six volumes. Yen Press publishes both the original novels and Mugiko's manga in English. "The Detective Is Already Dead" also inspired a television anime in July 2021, with Funimation providing streaming and an English dub. A second anime season is due in October. Mugiko's consistent ability to adapt complex narratives into engaging manga art sets high expectations for "Kokō na Kanojo."
Yu Hibari's Expanding Universe
Yu Hibari is also the prolific author of the "Tenkō-saki no Seiso Karen na Bishōjo ga, Mukashi Danshi to Omotte Issho ni Asonda Osananajimi Datta Ken" (Tenbin) light novel series. Initiated online in 2020 and published by Kadokawa since 2021, "Tenbin" is likewise inspiring an upcoming television anime adaptation, set to premiere in July. A manga adaptation by Kina Ōyama also launched in 2021. Hibari's track record of creating captivating stories across multiple platforms adds significant anticipation to the new "Kokō na Kanojo" manga adaptation.
