World Trigger Manga Takes Break, Returns June 4
Fans of Daisuke Ashihara's beloved World Trigger manga will note a temporary pause in new chapters. The staff officially announced on Saturday that the series will observe a one-month hiatus, directly attributable to the author's health concerns. This means no new chapter will appear in the upcoming May 2 issue of Shueisha's Jump SQ. magazine. Enthusiasts can mark their calendars for the manga's anticipated return in the magazine's July 2026 issue, which is scheduled to ship on June 4.
Author Health Leads to Repeated Pauses
This isn't the first time the acclaimed World Trigger series has paused its serialization due to Ashihara's health. The manga experienced a similar one-month break last year in January, initially intended for the author to focus on the next compiled book volume. However, this break extended into February, once again due to Ashihara's poor health. Despite these challenges, the manga successfully published a new chapter in Jump SQ.'s April issue on March 4. Further interruptions occurred last August, again for health reasons, before the series resumed on September 4. Most recently, another one-issue break was taken this past January, reiterating the ongoing health considerations for the author.
World Trigger's Publication Journey
World Trigger began its serialization journey in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 2013, quickly captivating readers with its unique world and engaging narrative. The manga faced a significant hiatus in November 2016, also attributed to Ashihara's physical health, before making a welcome return to the magazine in October 2018 for five issues. Following this, the series made a pivotal move to Jump SQ. magazine in December 2018, where it has continued its serialization. The latest milestone for the manga was the shipment of its 29th compiled book volume in Japan on December 4, offering readers more of the intense battles and character development they've come to expect. For global fans, Viz Media and MANGA Plus both provide simultaneous digital publication of the series in English, with Viz Media also offering print editions.
The Anime's Exciting Reboot Project
Beyond the manga, the World Trigger franchise is gearing up for a significant development in its anime adaptation. A highly anticipated "Reboot Project" has been announced, promising to re-adapt the original manga directly from its first chapter. This comprehensive project is slated to include pivotal story arcs such as the Border Enlistment Arc, the Large-Scale Invasion Arc, and the B-Rank Wars Arc. Toei Animation, the studio behind previous seasons, will continue its production role, with the anime staff teasing a "powered up World Trigger 1st Season." This initiative aims to deliver a fresh and potentially more expansive take on the series' foundational narrative for both new viewers and long-time followers.
A Look Back at World Trigger Anime Seasons
The original World Trigger television anime from Toei Animation first premiered in October 2014, establishing the animated world of Border agents and invading Neighbors. A sequel season followed in October 2015, continuing the story. Crunchyroll enhanced accessibility for English-speaking audiences by streaming an English dub of the anime starting in February 2020. The second season of the anime made its debut in January 2021, airing for 12 episodes, with Crunchyroll streaming it concurrently with its Japanese broadcast. The third season premiered in October 2021, featured on TV Asahi's NUMAnimation programming block, and was also streamed by Crunchyroll as it aired in Japan. Both the second and third seasons additionally received English dubs, catering to a broader international audience.
Expanding Universe: World Trigger Stage Plays
World Trigger has also successfully transitioned to the stage, with a series of popular theatrical adaptations. The first stage play adaptation captivated audiences from November to December 2021, bringing the manga's action to life. This was followed by a second stage play run in August 2022 and a third in August 2023, showcasing the continued demand for live adaptations. The fourth stage play delved into the exciting "Galopoula Invasion" arc, running across Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka in October and November 2024. Most recently, the fifth stage play adapted the critical "B-Rank Wars Final Match" arc, performing from April to May 2025. These stage productions offer another dimension for fans to experience the dynamic world of World Trigger.
