Captain Tsubasa Anime Series Coming to DVD

Viz Media is set to release two DVD sets featuring the popular anime series, Captain Tsubasa. Fans can look forward to owning "Captain Tsubasa: The Complete Season" and "Captain Tsubasa: Junior Youth Arc - The Complete Season" starting April 7. These releases promise to bring the excitement and passion of the series to a wider audience.

DVD Set Details

Both DVD sets will offer a comprehensive viewing experience with multiple language options. Each set includes Japanese, English, and Spanish audio dubs, along with English and Spanish subtitles. Viz Media confirmed that the sets will be available on DVD only. The company also stated that both anime series will be presented in 1080p resolution, ensuring a high-quality visual experience for viewers.

Captain Tsubasa: The Complete Season

This seven-disc set encompasses episodes 1 through 52 of the anime. As a bonus, the set will include trailers. The story centers on Tsubasa Ozora, a young boy with an immense love for soccer. After transferring to Nankatsu Elementary School, Tsubasa quickly befriends Ryo Ishizaki and Taro Misaki, who share his passion for the sport. Together, Tsubasa and his friends embark on a journey that will test their skills and determination as they face tough opponents from across Japan.

This series is based on the hugely popular manga by Yōichi Takahashi, originally published from 1981 to 1988. The anime premiered in April 2018 and aired on TV Tokyo and other stations. It retells the story of Takahashi's original manga from the very beginning, offering a fresh take on the beloved classic. The "Middle School" story arc began in episode 29 in October 2018, and the anime concluded its run with its 52nd episode in April 2019.

Captain Tsubasa: Junior Youth Arc - The Complete Season

This five-disc DVD set features episodes 1 through 39 of the Junior Youth Arc. Like the previous set, it also includes trailers as a bonus feature. The story follows Tsubasa Ozora as the captain of his Junior High School soccer team. He is determined to lead Nankatsu MS to their third consecutive national title. However, he faces fierce competition from rivals such as Shun Nitta, Makoto Soda, and the Tachibana brothers. His biggest rival, Kojiro Hyuga, presents an even greater challenge.

The arc focuses on Tsubasa's efforts to master the "Drive Shot" technique and overcome the various obstacles in his path. The narrative captures the intensity and drama of the final summer of Junior High. Captain Tsubasa: Junior Youth Arc debuted in October 2023. Crunchyroll and Pluto TV are currently streaming the anime. The anime ran for three continuous cours (quarter of a year). Netflix is also providing streaming access to the series.
