Square Enix Rereleases Original Final Fantasy VII Game on PC With Extra Features

Final Fantasy VII Re-Released on PC with Enhanced Features

Square Enix has re-released the original Final Fantasy VII on PC via Steam and GOG, much to the delight of fans. This new version boasts several enhancements aimed at improving the gameplay experience. The announcement was made via the official Final Fantasy VII X account.

What's New in This Version?

This updated version includes a 3x speed mode, allowing players to speed up their progress through the game. For those who find random encounters tedious, there's an option to turn them off entirely. A battle enhancement mode has also been added, which automatically recovers HP and MP during battles and maxes out the Limit gauge. These features aim to streamline the experience and make the game more accessible to modern players.

Free for Owners of the 2013 Port

If you already own the 2013 port of Final Fantasy VII on Steam, you're in luck! The new version is available to you for free. This is a generous move by Square Enix and a welcome reward for loyal fans.

2013 Edition Still Available, But Not for Purchase

The 2013 port of the game will no longer be available for purchase on Steam. However, if you've already purchased it, you'll still be able to access it alongside the new version. The title of the previous Steam release will be updated to Final Fantasy VII - 2013 Edition.

Save File Compatibility

While players of the 2013 release will retain their save files, saves between the two versions of the game will not be transferable. This is something to keep in mind if you're planning on switching between versions.

A Classic Inducted into the Hall of Fame

The original Final Fantasy VII launched for PlayStation in January 1997 and quickly became a cultural phenomenon. Its impact on the gaming industry is undeniable, and it was inducted into The Strong's Video Game Hall of Fame in 2018.

Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth

Square Enix has continued to expand the Final Fantasy VII universe with the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Final Fantasy VII Remake was released on PlayStation 4 in April 2020, followed by the Intergrade version on PlayStation 5, PC via the Epic Games Store, and PC via Steam. It was also released for Nintendo Switch 2 in January 2024 for those who pre-ordered the digital version. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth debuted worldwide in February 2024 on two discs for PS5 and launched on Steam and Epic Games Store on PC in January 2025.

Twin Pack Bundle

Square Enix offered a "twin pack" bundle including both Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, giving players the opportunity to experience both games in one purchase.
