Solo Leveling Characters Join the Fortnite Battle

Netmarble has officially announced a crossover event bringing the world of its popular action RPG, Solo Leveling: ARISE, into Fortnite. This collaboration allows players to experience the Solo Leveling universe within the popular battle royale game.

The crossover, which began recently and runs through March 2, introduces playable character skins based on key figures from the Solo Leveling series. Players can now embody Jin-woo Sung, the series' protagonist, as well as the powerful hunter Hae-in Cha and the formidable shadow commander Igris. The collaboration also includes themed outfits, accessories, and emotes that allow players to fully immerse themselves in the Solo Leveling aesthetic within Fortnite.

Solo Leveling's Growing Popularity

Solo Leveling originates from a web novel of the same name, which follows the journey of Jin-woo Sung. Initially a weak hunter, Jin-woo Sung gains mysterious powers that transform him into the strongest hunter. The webtoon adaptation of the novel has achieved international success, leading to the creation of games and an anime series. This crossover with Fortnite highlights the franchise's growing global presence and appeal.

Anime Adaptation and Expansion

The anime adaptation of Solo Leveling debuted in Japan in January 2024, with Crunchyroll adding an English dub in the same month. A compilation film titled Solo Leveling -ReAwakening-, featuring the first season of the anime and a preview of the second season's initial episodes, was screened in Japan from November to December 2024. Subsequently, Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures screened Solo Leveling -ReAwakening- in select theaters in the U.S. and Canada in December 2024.

The highly anticipated second season of the anime premiered in January 2025 and was streamed by Crunchyroll, complete with an English dub. The success of the anime has further expanded the Solo Leveling fanbase and introduced the story to a wider audience.

Webtoon and Novel Success

The webtoon adaptation of Chugong's Solo Leveling novel series, illustrated by DUBU (REDICE Studio), was launched on WEBTOON in March 2018 and concluded in December 2021. Yen Press publishes the manhwa version and the original novel series in English in print. Several services, including Tapas, release the web novel and webtoon digitally, making the content accessible to readers worldwide. The webtoon and novel's popularity has been a key factor in the franchise's overall success.

Solo Leveling: ARISE Game Launch and Achievements

Netmarble's Solo Leveling: ARISE role-playing game launched for Android, iOS, and Windows in May 2024. In November 2024, Netmarble released Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE for PC via Steam and Xbox PC. The game is also scheduled to launch for Xbox Series X|S, as well as Xbox Cloud, in 2026.

The mobile game has rapidly gained popularity, surpassing 60 million users worldwide in under a year since its launch. This success has been recognized with Korea's top game honor at the 2024 Korea Game Awards, demonstrating the game's quality and appeal. The game's popularity serves as evidence for the franchise's wide reach.

Implications of the Fortnite Crossover

The crossover between Solo Leveling: ARISE and Fortnite represents a significant step in expanding the reach of the Solo Leveling franchise. By integrating its characters and aesthetic into one of the world's most popular battle royale games, Netmarble is introducing Solo Leveling to a massive new audience. This collaboration is likely to further boost the popularity of both the game and the anime series, establishing Solo Leveling as a major player in the global entertainment market.
