Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Game Rescheduled on Switch 2 for May 28

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Delayed on Switch 2, New Release Date Announced

Dragami Games has announced a delay for the Nintendo Switch 2 release of Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, the remastered version of the popular hack-and-slash game created by filmmaker James Gunn and Gōichi Suda (Suda51). The game, initially slated for release on March 26, will now be available on May 28.

Reasons for the Delay

The postponement of the Switch 2 release was attributed to the necessity for significant updates to the game. Dragami Games also mentioned that the current Switch version requires similar updates.

New Features and Upgrades

Despite the delay, the Switch 2 edition of Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP will include an exclusive new game mode called "Gun Shooting Mode." In this mode, players will battle waves of zombies across three phases per stage. An upgrade pass will also be available for players who already own the Switch version.

Initial Release and Sales Success

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP was initially launched digitally in the Americas and Europe for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series XS, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam in September 2024. Dragami Games reported in early January 2025 that the game had sold over 200,000 copies worldwide.

Post-Launch Updates

A major update was released for the game in February 2025, adding the "Goth Outfit" costume, previously a store-exclusive bonus in the original Lollipop Chainsaw game, and a "Photo Mode."

A Definitive Version

Yoshimi Yasuda, former CEO of Kadokawa Games and current CEO of Dragami Games, has described Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP as the "definitive version" of the game. He emphasized that the story remains unchanged, with the focus being on quality-of-life improvements and additional gameplay content.

Development Team

The development of Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP involved a combination of staff from the original game and Dragami Games staff. Notably, James Gunn and Gōichi Suda were not involved in the remaster.

IP Acquisition

Yasuda announced in July 2022 that Dragami Games had acquired the IP from Kadokawa Games after the game's status was uncertain. He also mentioned that Warner Bros. is supporting Dragami Games in this project.

Original Game History

The original Lollipop Chainsaw, a hack-and-slash zombie game, was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 worldwide in June 2012. Grasshopper Manufacture developed the game, and Kadokawa Games and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment published it. The game was a collaborative effort between Gōichi Suda (Suda51) and filmmaker James Gunn.

Dragami Games Formation

Kadokawa Games divested a portion of its business to the newly formed Dragami Games in May 2022. Yasuda, then president and CEO of Kadokawa Games, and company director Satoshi Fuyuno established Dragami Games in May 2022.

Future of the Franchise

In July 2025, Taiwan's Nada Holdings announced its partnership with Dragami Games for new Lollipop Chainsaw franchise projects. These projects include a new game and an anime adaptation. Nada Holdings stated that the new game will not impose "excessive creative restrictions in the name of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion)," without specifying how they will avoid such restrictions.
