Konami Unveils Castlevania: Belmont's Curse Game by Dead Cells Developers

Castlevania Returns with Belmont's Curse

Konami has announced a brand-new installment in the beloved Castlevania series, titled Castlevania: Belmont's Curse. This marks the first entirely new game in the franchise since Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, which was released in 2014. The game is being developed by Evil Empire, with Motion Twin acting as an advisory studio. Both studios are known for their work on the popular sidescrolling roguelike, Dead Cells.

Release Platforms and Timing

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse is slated to launch this year on a variety of platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. This wide release ensures that fans across different gaming systems will be able to experience the new title.

Setting and Story

The game is set in 15th century Paris, taking place over two decades after the events of Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse and the recent animated show. Players will step into the role of Trevor Belmont's successor, who is armed with the legendary Vampire Killer whip. The protagonist must venture into a city overrun by monstrous creatures and a looming mystical castle to save the Parisians from eternal darkness. The story promises a new chapter in the history of the Belmont family, written in "bloody red ink."

Gameplay and Features

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse aims to blend classic Castlevania elements with new gameplay mechanics. Players will need to master various weapons and spells to combat the enemies they encounter. Exploration will be a key element, encouraging players to explore every corner of the sinister castle. The game is designed to appeal to both long-time fans of the franchise and newcomers alike.

Konami's Recent Castlevania Releases

In August 2024, Konami released the Castlevania Dominus Collection on Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. This collection includes three Nintendo DS titles: Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, and Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. Additionally, the collection features the original Castlevania arcade game, Haunted Castle, along with a reimagining titled Haunted Castle Revisited. This collection offers fans a chance to revisit classic titles from the series.

Castlevania: Nocturne Animated Series

The Castlevania franchise has also expanded into animation with the spinoff series Castlevania: Nocturne, which premiered in September 2023. This series is produced by Frederator Studios and stars Richter Belmont, a descendant of Sypha and Trevor from the original animated show, along with Maria Renard. Set in France during the French Revolution in 1792, the series tells the origin story of Richter. The second season of Castlevania: Nocturne premiered in January 2025.
