Code Vein II Makes a Strong Debut in Japan
Bandai Namco Entertainment's Code Vein II has taken the top spot in the latest Japanese game sales charts. The game launched on January 29th for the PlayStation 5 and sold 14,452 copies in its first week, securing the number one position.
Nintendo Dominates the Charts
Nintendo continues to hold a strong presence in the Japanese market, with multiple titles appearing in the top 20. Mario Kart World for the Nintendo Switch 2 secured second place, selling 12,445 copies this week and bringing its total sales to 2,805,146. Animal Crossing: New Horizons also remains popular, with both Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch versions charting at number three and four respectively.
Upcoming Titles Anticipated
Several upcoming titles for the Nintendo Switch 2 are already performing well in sales charts. Pokemon Legends: Z-A, set to release on October 16, 2025, is listed twice, demonstrating strong anticipation for the title. Other upcoming releases such as Momotaro Dentetsu 2: Anata no Machi mo Kitto Aru Higashi Nihon-hen + Nishi Nihon-hen, Kirby Air Riders, Donkey Kong Bananza, Super Mario Party Jamboree + Jamboree TV, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment also made the list.
Long-Standing Titles Continue to Sell
Despite being released several years ago, some titles continue to sell consistently in Japan. Animal Crossing: New Horizons for the Nintendo Switch, released in March 2020, remains a popular choice. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, released in April 2017, also maintains a presence in the top 20. Minecraft, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Nintendo Switch Sports also continue to generate sales.
Konami and Square Enix Titles Make the List
Konami's Momotaro Dentetsu 2: Anata no Machi mo Kitto Aru Higashi Nihon-hen + Nishi Nihon-hen appears twice on the list, showcasing the title's continued popularity. Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade for the Nintendo Switch 2 also secured a spot in the top 10.
New Releases Enter the Charts
Alongside Code Vein II, several other new releases made their debut in the charts. Dokapon 3-2-1 Super Collection! for the Nintendo Switch sold 2,978 copies in its first week. Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake with Power-Up Kit for the Nintendo Switch also had a debut.
Platform Distribution
The sales data reveals a clear trend in platform preference. The Nintendo Switch and its successor, the Nintendo Switch 2, dominate the charts, with a large number of titles appearing on both platforms. The PlayStation 5 is represented by Code Vein II.
