CyberConnect2, celebrating its 30th anniversary, has announced a brand new action role-playing game, .hack//Z.E.R.O. This marks a significant step for the company as it ventures into self-publishing, having previously collaborated with Bandai Namco Entertainment on other projects within the .hack franchise. The game is designed for consoles and is positioned as part of a larger multimedia initiative.

A New Chapter for .hack

.hack//Z.E.R.O. promises a fresh RPG experience, blending the series' familiar themes of fantasy and reality with contemporary expectations. CyberConnect2 emphasizes that the game will be infused with their unique creative spirit. This project sees CyberConnect2 taking on full responsibility for planning, development, and publication, a departure from their previous collaborative efforts with Bandai Namco Entertainment. This decision highlights CyberConnect2's ambition and confidence in their vision for the .hack series.

Taro Hakase's Musical Touch

Adding a layer of prestige to the project, renowned violinist Taro Hakase is composing the game's music. His score is featured in the teaser trailer, suggesting a strong emphasis on evocative and memorable soundscapes. Hakase's involvement signals CyberConnect2's commitment to high production values and a captivating artistic experience. A Glimpse into the Teaser Trailer

The teaser trailer provides a visual showcase, highlighting the talent of various creative teams. Animation was handled by Kamikazedouga Co., Ltd., with Takafumi Utsunomiya serving as Director and Storyboard artist. Kenta Yoshino acted as Animation Director. The CGI aspects were overseen by Takeshi Ishiuchi, with Shogo Konishi as CGI Assistant. These individuals contributed to the overall visual appeal of the trailer.

Michi Suzuki created the Imageboard, setting the tone and atmosphere. Character modeling was executed by Moeka Sunaga and Chisato Kudo, while Takeshi Ishiuchi, Aoi Okafuji, and Dan Kobayashi handled prop modeling. The intricate process of character setup was managed by Masaya Ibayashi and Rika Ueda, with Shogo Konishi responsible for prop setup. These behind-the-scenes roles highlight the collaborative nature of game development.

Kenta Yoshino, Masaya Ibayashi, Shogo Konishi, Hiroki Saitou, Rika Ueda, Rio Kaiho, and Yūhei Sekigami contributed to the 3D animation, bringing the characters and world to life. UI animation was crafted by Hiroki Saitou, while 3D effect animation was created by Susumu Yamaguchi and Takeshi Ishiuchi. 2D effect animation was handled by Maki Yamakoshi. The combined efforts of these animators contribute to the dynamism and visual storytelling within the game.

Hiroki Saitou oversaw character look development, while Aoi Okafuji handled prop look development. Character texture was created by Kei Okazaki and Yasuko Miura, with Aoi Okafuji responsible for prop texture. Takeshi Ishiuchi and Aoi Okafuji handled rendering, with Yuri Shimada creating the rendering script. The careful attention to detail in textures and rendering is crucial for creating a visually immersive game world.

Kei Okazaki and Shiori Kato handled 2D retouching. Icon illustrations were created by Kei Okazaki, Gosunkugi Masahiro, Keita Morooka, and Manami Kimura. These elements contribute to the user interface and overall aesthetic presentation.

The Art of Backgrounds

The background art was a collaborative effort. Susumu Mamura handled background layout cleanup. Bihou served as the background studio, with Shunichirō Yoshihara as Art Director. Phuong Thuy, Dan Chinh, Hong Hoa, Thanh Tu, Hong Tam, and Shuichi Tsuji worked as background artists. Tomoya Oosaki acted as Background Production Manager. The intricate backgrounds add depth and atmosphere to the game's environments.

Post-Production and Production Management

Susumu Yamaguchi served as Compositing Director, with Takeshi Ishiuchi, Aoi Okafuji, and Hiroki Saitou handling compositing. Daisuke Shibazaki and Soichiro Yamakawa were the Animation Producers, while Jumpei Mizusaki served as Creative Producer. Their contributions ensure the cohesive and polished final product.

CyberConnect2 Film: A New Venture

In addition to the new game, CyberConnect2 announced the establishment of CyberConnect2 Film, a new screen entertainment venture within the company. This expansion signifies CyberConnect2's ambition to broaden its creative horizons and explore new avenues for storytelling. The details of future projects remain to be seen, but this move indicates a strategic shift towards diverse forms of media.

Anniversary Celebrations

To commemorate its 30th anniversary, CyberConnect2 is holding an exhibition that will travel to all 47 prefectures of Japan. The company is also hosting a "Fan Meeting" event in eight cities. These events provide opportunities for fans to connect with the company and celebrate its history. The nationwide exhibition highlights CyberConnect2's commitment to engaging with its fanbase across Japan.
