Chainsmoker Cat Anime Adaptation Announced for July Premiere

A new anime adaptation is on the horizon, promising a quirky and relatable comedy about a catgirl grappling with her nicotine addiction and chaotic lifestyle. The anime, based on Nyan Nyan Factory's "Chainsmoker Cat" (Yanineko) manga, is set to premiere in July, bringing the struggles and humorous moments of Yani to the screen.

Manga's Premise

The manga, licensed in English by Seven Seas, is set in a world where humans, catgirls, and other similar species coexist. The story centers around Yani, a catgirl with a severe smoking habit. Her apartment is a testament to her addiction, filled with the smell of ash and littered with cigarette butts and general mess. Despite her attempts to quit, Yani constantly succumbs to her cravings, leading to a cycle of relapse and self-disappointment. The central question of the story is whether Yani will ever manage to turn her life around or remain a chainsmoking slob forever.

Production Details

The anime adaptation is being directed by Taku Kimura of Studio Lemon, known for his work on "Kairyu to Yubinya-san" and "Star Wars: Visions' 'Tattooine Rhapsody.'" Bibury Animation Studio is handling the animation production. Takashi Aoshima, who has worked on series like "Himouto! Umaruchan" and "The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You," is in charge of writing the scripts. Riki Matsuura is designing the characters, while Keiichi Suzuki, known for his musical contributions to "Saint Young Men" and "Tokyo Godfathers," is composing the music.

Cast and Release

Yƫko Natsuyoshi will be voicing the main character, Yani. The anime is scheduled to premiere in July on Tokyo MX and other channels.

Manga's Popularity

Nyan Nyan Factory has been serializing the "Chainsmoker Cat" manga in Kodansha's Young Magazine. Kodansha is set to publish the 11th volume of the manga. Seven Seas Entertainment released the first volume in English.
