The official website for the television anime adaptation of Mayo Momoyo's Nigashita Sakana wa Ookikatta ga Tsuriageta Sakana ga Ookisugita Ken (The Fish I Missed Was Big, But I Caught Another Fish Was Too Big.) light novel revealed additional staff, a key visual (pictured), the opening theme, and first promotional video on Tuesday. Music group HoneyWorks (Saigo ni Hitotsu dake Onegai shitemo Yoroshii deshou ka) is performing the opening theme "Chikai wa Kyun to. feat. Airi Suzuki," which is previewed in the promotional video below.
Akira Oguro (Ars no Kyojuu) is directing the anime at TROYCA, with Michiko Yokote (Kizetsu Yuusha to Ansatsu Hime) handling the series composition. Isamu Suzuki (Shinobi no Ittoki) is designing the characters.
Momoyo initially penned the fantasy romance series as a short story on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in October 2020, before launching a sequel series in December 2020. Square Enix began publishing the series with illustrations from Itsuki Mito under their SQEX Novel light novel imprint in August 2021. The sixth volume was released in November 2025.
Kaki Nagato began drawing a manga adaptation on Square Enix's Manga Up! service in April 2022. The ninth volume went on sale in November 2025.
Square Enix is releasing the manga in English on their Manga Up! website and app. The fifth volume shipped in December 2025, with the sixth volume planned for a March 26 release.
