Live-Action BLUELOCK Film Reveals Kyohei Takahashi as Hyoma Chigiri
The live-action adaptation of the popular soccer manga, BLUELOCK, continues to excite fans with new casting announcements. The official X/Twitter account for the film revealed that Kyohei Takahashi will be playing the role of Hyoma Chigiri, a key character in the series. Two visuals were released, one showing the character and another zooming in on his captivating eyes.
Character Reveals Continue
The film's social media account is building anticipation by revealing a new character each day. Previously, they teased fans with a visual showcasing the eyes of 12 characters, representing the members of Team Z. This slow-burn approach has kept the fanbase engaged and eager for more news.
Cast and Crew Details
Fumiya Takahashi has been cast as the protagonist, Yoichi Isagi, and Kaito Sakurai will play Meguru Bachira. The film is slated to open in Japan in the summer of 2026. Yūsuke Taki is directing the film, with Tetsuo Kamata penning the screenplay. Shinzō Matsuhashi is serving as a producer. CREDEUS, the studio behind the live-action Golden Kamuy film, is producing, and TOHO is distributing.
About BLUELOCK
Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yūsuke Nomura launched the original BLUELOCK manga in Weekly Shōnen Magazine in August 2018. Kodansha published the 37th compiled book volume on January 16. The manga won the Best Shōnen Manga award in Kodansha's 45th annual Manga Awards in 2021. Kodansha USA Publishing is releasing the manga in English digitally and in print.
The story revolves around Japan's national soccer team's disastrous defeat at the 2018 World Cup. The Japan Football Union seeks to create an absolute Ace Striker to lead them to victory. They gather 300 of Japan's best youth players and put them through a rigorous and ego-driven competition to find the one who will emerge as the ultimate goal-scorer.
Anime Adaptations
The BLUELOCK manga inspired a television anime series that premiered in Japan in October 2022. The anime ran for 24 episodes and was streamed by Crunchyroll. A second season, titled BLUE LOCK vs. U-20 JAPAN, debuted in October 2024 and aired for 14 episodes, also streamed by Crunchyroll. A third season adapting the "Shin Eiyū Taisen" story is in the works.
BLUELOCK -Episode Nagi- Spin-off
Kōta Sannomiya's BLUELOCK -Episode Nagi- manga spin-off focuses on Seishirō Nagi before he enters the Blue Lock facility. The manga launched in June 2022 and ran in Kodansha's Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine, concluding in July 2025. Kodansha USA Publishing is releasing the spin-off manga in print. The spin-off also inspired an anime film that premiered in Japan in April 2024, ranking at #2 in the Japanese box office in its opening weekend. The film opened in North America in June 2024 and is being streamed by Crunchyroll.
