VIDEO: "Linebarrels of Iron" Manga Creators to Reboot Shotaro Ishinomori's Classic "Robot Detective"
Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi, the team created the Linebarrels of Iron manga series, will work on a manga reboot of Robot Keiji (Robot Detective), Toei's tokusatsu superhero TV series in 1973 created by Shotaro Ishinomori (Kamen Rider, Cyborg 009) and Ishinomori's comicarization of the same name. The news was announced at the Choeiyusai: Kamen Rider x Super Sentai Live & Show 2014 at Nippon Budokan on January 15. The new manga will tell a totally original story and will be serialized in Akita Shoten's shonen manga magazine in this fall. Check the teaser trailer below.
The 26-episode tokusatsu series Robot Keiji was aired in Japan from April to September in 1973 and Ishinomori's manga was serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine from the 1st to 41st issue of the same year. The story focused on a robot detective named "K." Some fans think that Robot Keiji was one of the main inspirations for Paul Verhoeven's 1987 film Robocop along with The 8 Man and
Space Sheriff Gavan.
Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi are currently working on another manga reboot of a famous
tokusatsu series, Ultraman. Their ULTRAMAN manga has been serialized in Monthly Hero's since the
December 2011 issue and so far three tankobon volumes have been published in Japan.
