The anime adaptation of Umikaze Minamino's light novel series, known in Japan as Kyōran Reijō Nia Liston: Byōjaku Reijō ni Tenseishita Kami-goroshi no Bujin no Kareinaru Musō Roku, has been captivating audiences since its original premiere on October 6. Running for two consecutive cours, the series offers a substantial and immersive story. HIDIVE has been a go-to platform for streaming the anime as it airs, and now the English dub further expands its accessibility for a global audience.
The Merciless Maiden's Story
The premise of Nia Liston: The Merciless Maiden is a thrilling journey of reincarnation and second chances. The story centers on a formidable hero who, on her deathbed, laments never finding an opponent strong enough to defeat her in battle. Her desire for a warrior's end is profound, wishing for a different fate than a peaceful demise.
Suddenly, she awakens in the frail body of a young girl named Nia Liston. This new existence presents an entirely different kind of battle. Nia is a sickly child, far from the fighting form of her past life. However, armed with her former self's determination and unwavering spirit, she is resolute in achieving her new goals. Her ultimate aim is to live and die exclusively for battle this time around, embracing her destiny as the Merciless Maiden. This compelling narrative promises action, growth, and a unique take on the fantasy genre.
From Light Novel to Anime
Nia Liston: The Merciless Maiden originated as a web novel on the popular Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in 2019, concluding its run in 2021. Hobby Japan later began publishing the light novels with illustrations, first by Jishaku and then by Katana Canata from the third volume onwards. The anime credits both talented illustrators for the original character designs, bringing their vision to life on screen. The 12th volume of the light novel was published on October 1, showcasing the ongoing popularity and depth of the series.
Adding to its expansive universe, a manga adaptation by Kabuto Kodai launched on Square Enix's Manga UP! service in 2022. The manga quickly gained traction, with its first compiled book volume released in May 2023 and the ninth volume arriving on October 7. Fans worldwide can follow the manga adaptation through Square Enix's Manga UP! Global service, making the story accessible to an even broader readership. The continued development across various media highlights the strong appeal and rich storytelling of Nia Liston.
