The world of anime is about to get a whole lot cozier and cuter, with a touch of the supernatural! Fans are buzzing with excitement as it was recently announced that Esu Omori's delightful manga, Shiba Inu Rooms, is officially getting a television anime series. This highly anticipated adaptation is set to make its debut in Summer 2027, bringing its unique charm to screens courtesy of the renowned TMS Entertainment studio.
Shiba Inu Rooms Anime: A Charming Supernatural Comedy Arrives
The announcement came on Sunday, perfectly timed as November 1 is celebrated as "Wan Wan Wan Day" in Japan – a playful nod to the sound of a dog barking. What better way to celebrate canines than with an anime centered around a ghostly Shiba Inu?
Shiba Inu Rooms promises a fresh and heartwarming narrative. The story introduces high schooler Kori Momose, whose move into a new apartment takes an unexpected turn when she discovers it is haunted by a lovable, albeit mischievous, Shiba Inu ghost named Mu. The premise sets up an entertaining dynamic: Kori and Mu, like fire and ice, initially find themselves at odds. The core of the series will explore whether these two unlikely roommates can overcome their differences, learn to co-exist, and ultimately forge an extraordinary friendship. This unique blend of slice-of-life and supernatural elements is sure to captivate a wide audience, making it a must-watch anime for fans of heartwarming stories and adorable ghostly companions.
Stellar Voice Cast Leads the Way
Bringing Kori and Mu to life are two talented voice actors who will undoubtedly add depth and personality to their roles. Niina Nakabayashi has been cast as the human protagonist, Kori Momose. Her portrayal will be crucial in capturing Kori's initial skepticism and eventual warming up to her ghostly canine companion. Joining her is Mutsumi Tamura, who will lend her voice to the charming Shiba Inu ghost, Mu. Tamura's experience will be key in conveying Mu's playful antics and heartfelt expressions, even in its spectral form. The chemistry between these two voice actors will be a defining factor in making the bond between Kori and Mu truly resonate with viewers.
The Creative Vision Behind Shiba Inu Rooms
Behind the scenes, a seasoned team is working to translate Esu Omori's manga into a vibrant anime experience. Osamu Yamasaki is taking the directorial reins at TMS Entertainment. Yamasaki's vision will guide the animation and storytelling, ensuring that the essence of Shiba Inu Rooms is faithfully captured. Character designs are being handled by Rio, known for their work on projects like trapezium and Sorcerous Stabber Orphen -Chaos in Urbanrama-. Rio's character designs will be instrumental in giving Kori and Mu their distinctive looks, making them instantly recognizable and endearing to fans. The combination of an experienced director and a skilled character designer promises a visually appealing and well-executed anime series.
Manga Paves the Way for Anime Success
Before its anime debut, Shiba Inu Rooms has already garnered a dedicated following through its manga. Esu Omori's creation first launched as a compelling one-shot in 2023, quickly proving its potential. Its popularity led to a full serialization on Shonen Jump+ in June 2024. Shueisha is actively publishing the series, with the ninth volume set to be released on November 4, demonstrating the manga's ongoing success and reader engagement.
For international fans eager to dive into the story ahead of the anime, Viz Media has licensed the manga for digital release starting January 2025. Following this, a physical release is planned for February 2026, with the first volume already shipping in print on September 1. Additionally, the series is readily available digitally in English on the convenient MANGA Plus app, making it accessible to a global audience. This widespread availability of the manga provides an excellent opportunity for new fans to familiarize themselves with Kori, Mu, and their heartwarming tale, building anticipation for the upcoming anime.
