The Story of Tachikawa Jinsuke and the Shinsengumi
The narrative of Inherit the Winds is set in Kyoto during the tumultuous Bakumatsu era. It follows a soldier named Tachikawa Jinsuke, who suffers from amnesia. His path intertwines with the legendary Shinsengumi member Okita Sōji, who bestows upon him the name and a new beginning amidst the Mibu soldiers. The anime features a strong main cast, including Daisuke Sakuma as Tachikawa Jinsuke, Yūki Kaji as Okita Sōji, Aoi Yūki as Koganei Hyōgo, Kōki Uchiyama as Hijikata Toshizō, Yūichi Nakamura as Kondō Isami, Nichika Ōmori as Kurosuke, Ryōhei Kimura as Nagakura Shinpachi, Ayumu Murase as Tōdō Heisuke, Simba Tsuchiya as Harada Sanosuke, Takeo Ōtsuka as Yamanaka Keisuke, Yasuyuki Kase as Serizawa Kamo, and Takaya Kamikawa as Umeda Shinbei. This ensemble promises to deliver a powerful historical drama.
The Creative Vision and Musical Landscape
Behind the scenes, a dedicated team is bringing Inherit the Winds to life. Yutaka Narui and Aniplex are credited with the original story, with cooperation from Azuki Mashiba. Tomohiro Kawamura is directing the anime at Live2D Creative Studio and Drive Inc., with Narui also penning the scripts. Fumi Ebina is responsible for the character designs, and Shigeru Kishida is composing the evocative musical score. The opening theme song, "Kaze wo Tsugumono" (Inherit the Winds), is performed by Quruli and hitsujibungaku, who also perform the ending theme, "Namida no Kawa" (River of Tears). The ending theme will additionally serve as the theatrical screening's theme song.
From Stage to Screen and Beyond
Further broadening its reach, a four-panel manga adaptation of Inherit the Winds, drawn by Matsuri Muramatsu, is set to launch in 2026 on Star Seas Company's Twi4 X account. Yutaka Narui, known for founding the theatrical troupe Caramel Box and his extensive work on Shinsengumi-themed stage plays, brings a deep understanding of the era to this project. While a play with a similar title exists, the anime is distinctly an "original" TV anime, differentiated by the writing of the word "mono" in its Japanese title, highlighting its unique narrative path. This multi-platform expansion ensures that the world of Inherit the Winds will resonate with a wide audience for years to come.
