The beloved Uta Macross rhythm game is making a grand return! AUGUST Inc. has confirmed a "revival" version of Uta Macross: Smartphone De Culture, targeting a release next spring on iOS, Android, and Steam. This marks a significant expansion, bringing the iconic Macross music experience to PC for the first time. The franchise's English social media accounts have teased multi-language support, indicating both Japanese and English will be available, welcoming a global audience.
Expanded Platforms and Enhanced Experience
The upcoming Uta Macross is a rhythm game spectacular, uniting singers and pilots from across the entire Macross franchise. Players can immerse themselves in numerous classic songs, featuring characters from The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Macross Plus, Macross 7, Macross Frontier, and Macross Delta, including their respective TV series and theatrical films.
While retaining the popular live performances and artwork from its previous live service iteration, the game is being thoroughly rebuilt for its multi-platform launch. A key enhancement involves redesigning the original smartphone controls to also support mouse and keyboard input for PC players. Crucially, the revived game will also offer offline play, a highly anticipated feature allowing uninterrupted enjoyment.
Crowdfunding for New Content
To enrich the game further, a crowdfunding campaign will launch on the Japanese Campfire site this Thursday. The goal is to raise 30,000,000 yen (approximately US$190,000) over 54 days. Funds generated will directly support the development of additional songs, broader platform support, and other exciting new content, empowering fans to contribute to the game's evolution.
Game Features and Collection
The standard edition of the revived Uta Macross promises a wealth of content. It will feature 50 songs upon release, along with over 1,000 4-star-or-higher rarity Plate illustrations for players to collect. Customization is also a focus, with over 20 distinct outfits available for each singer. A significant highlight is the "completely free-to-play" gacha system for Plates, allowing players to build their collection without cost. Furthermore, multiple DLCs are planned to introduce the remaining songs from the original live service version, as well as select additional Plates and outfits, ensuring a continuous stream of new content.
A Legacy Revived
The original Uta Macross: Smartphone De Culture launched on iOS and Android in August 2017, concluding its service in June 2022. It stood as the "first super-dimensional rhythm game" in the Macross franchise, bringing together characters like Walküre from Macross Delta, Sheryl Nome, and Ranka Lee with beloved Macross music. The upcoming revival honors this legacy, bringing the experience to a wider audience with enhanced features and a commitment to player engagement. Prepare to re-experience the magic of Macross in rhythm form next spring!
