The Detective Is Already Dead Season 2 Premieres This October!
Get ready for more mystery! The official website for The Detective Is Already Dead (Tanmoshi) anime adaptation has unveiled exciting new details for its second season. Fans can mark October 7 for the premiere, bringing new cast, an expanded production team, and captivating theme songs.
New Voices and Staff for Tanmoshi S2
Akari Komiyama and Nobuhiko Okamoto (Sousou no Frieren) are joining the cast as Mia Whitlock and Scarlet, respectively.
Studio ENGI sees a refreshed production team. Manabu Kurihara (Medalist chief animation director) directs, with Deko Akao (Noragami) handling series composition and Yousuke Itou (Kawaikereba Hentai demo Suki ni Natte Kuremasu ka?) on character design.
New staff members include Haruka Miyata (Medalist 2nd Season) as Art Director and Background Art. Eiko Nishi (Tokyo Ghoul:re) is Color Design. Shouta Tsukuda (Granblue Fantasy The Animation CG assistant) steps up as CG Director, joined by Satoshi Iijima as CGI Producer.
Ayumi Itakura (Majo no Tabitabi) and Yuusuke Yamamoto (Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai! Double) are new Directors of Photography. Masato Yoshitake (Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season) is Offline Editing. Yuutarou Hoshino (Unnamed Memory) and Yuuichi Yasuda (Unnamed Memory Act.2) are Animation Producers. Nobuyuki Abe (Kemono Friends) is the new Sound Director. The music team welcomes 40mP (Blue Archive the Animation) alongside Yuuyu (Shiyan Pin Jiating).
Theme Songs and Premiere Date
Singer Koume performs the opening theme "Kono Shinzou ni Hanataba wo." VTuber and illustrator Nana Kagura performs the ending theme "Hakuchuumu." Both are previewed in the third promotional video.
The Detective Is Already Dead Season 2 premieres October 7 at 9:30 p.m. on AT-X, followed by Tokyo MX, and BS Nippon Television.
Tanmoshi's Universe: Light Novels and Manga
The first season, produced by ENGI, aired 12 episodes in Summer 2021, adapting roughly the first two light novel volumes. Crunchyroll streamed it globally.
Nigojuu's original light novel, Tanmoshi, began in November 2019 with illustrations by Umibouzu. Kadokawa published the 13th volume in July 2025, with the 14th scheduled for an October 23 release. The series boasts over 1 million copies in circulation since July 2022.
Mugiko's manga adaptation in Comic Alive (May 2020 - Oct 2023) covered light novel volumes one and three across six volumes. Poni's second manga, The Lost Memory (Jan 2021 - Nov 2022), adapted light novel volume two over four volumes.
Expanding World: Spin-off Light Novels
The Tanmoshi universe expands with spin-off light novels. Syusui Tsukimi's Natsu na Nagisa wa Mada, Mesukousei de Itai. (Nagisa Natsunagi Still Wants to Be a High School Girl), illustrated by Hanekoto, was published August 2023 with its final volume released February 24.
Charlotte wa Tada, Jiken wo Tokitai., written by Hinachihoko and illustrated by Minori Chigusa, followed in May 2024. A third spin-off, Saikawa Yui wa Demo, Aidoru de Iru by Shao Senlin and Almic, was published August 2024.
English Releases by Yen Press
Yen Press licensed the light novel (Jan 2020) and manga (Apr 2021) for English readers. The 12th light novel volume was released August 11, and the sixth manga volume in December 2024. Yen Press also licensed and published the final volume of the Natsu na Nagisa spin-off on February 26.
