Sentai Filmworks spearheaded and produced this meticulous restoration and remaster, all under the direct supervision of director Yoshiaki Kawajiri himself. The process involved a high-resolution 4K scan (3840x2160 pixels) of the original 35mm negative, followed by expert damage repair and precise color correction, ensuring the film looks more vibrant and detailed than ever before.
This magnificent 4K version has already made waves, having its world premiere on February 15, 2024, at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale). This was a significant milestone, marking Ninja Scroll as the first anime film ever to be featured in the event's prestigious Berlinale Classics section. Encore screenings followed on February 16 and 22, delighting festival-goers.
For audiences in the U.S. and Canada, Sentai Filmworks will be screening the 4K version of Ninja Scroll on October 4, 5, and 7. Furthermore, Iconic Events Releasing and Anime Expo collaborated to screen Ninja Scroll in September 2024 for AX Cinema Nights, commemorating the 30th anniversary of its theatrical release in the U.S.
