Medalist Anime Season Two Announces New Cast Members
The second season of the anime adaptation of Tsurumaikada's Olympic ice-skating manga, Medalist, has revealed four new additions to its cast. The announcement was made on Monday, exciting fans eager for the continuation of the story.
New Characters and Their Voice Actors
Natsuki Hanae will be voicing Kakeru Uobuchi, a temporary coach specializing in jump techniques. Konomi Inagaki will play Miku Ahiru, a talented first-year middle school student from the Tonanmachi Lake Figure Skating Club (FSC) in Niigata. Miku is known as the "golden egg" due to her impressive skills, having won the gold medal at the Hokkaido-Tohoku division tournament. Shoya Ishige will voice Kohei Kamogawa, the head coach at Tonanmachi Lake FSC. A former ice dancer, Kohei was a member of the same club as Tsukasa. Lastly, Yuki Ono will play Juna Shiratori, the choreographer at Tonanmachi Lake FSC. Juna is also a former figure skater and clubmate of Tsukasa and Kohei, and is famous for his appearances in commercials.
Season Two Premiere and Broadcast Details
The second season premiered on January 24 on the "NUMAnimation" programming block on TV Asahi and 23 other affiliate channels at 25:30 (effectively, January 25 at 1:30 a.m.). The anime also began airing on CS TV Asahi Channel 1 and BS Asahi on January 25.
Returning and Additional Cast Members
The second season also features a number of returning cast members, alongside additional voice actors. Natsuko Abe voices Yuna Yagi, Mao Itou plays Rinna Sarukawa, Maria Naganawa voices Roba Manaka, Minami Tanaka plays Yotsuha Ushikawa, Hikaru Tono voices Kurumi Risu, Takako Tanaka plays Sakina Anaguma, Yuko Natsuyoshi voices Sana Niwatori, Hibiku Yamamura plays Iruka Okazaki, Kotomi Aihara voices Riina Kojo, and Ai Kayano plays Marika Kurione.
Production Staff Updates
The second season sees some changes in the production staff. Hazuki Nakamura, the 3DCG environment supervisor from the first season, takes over as art director, replacing Yoko Nakao. Kentaro Kashiwagi, previously the 3DCG composite supervisor, is now the compositing director of photography, replacing Shin'ichi Komeya.
Theme Songs
The opening theme song for the second season is "Cold Night" performed by the girl group HANA. The ending theme song is "Rookies" by Conton Candy.
Figure Skating Choreography and Motion Capture
Japanese figure skater Rika Hongo is participating in the anime's motion capture filming, alongside Akiko Suzuki, who also worked on the first season.
First Season Recap
The first season of Medalist premiered in Japan in January 2025 on the "NUMAnimation" programming block on TV Asahi and its affiliated channels. The anime was also streamed on Disney+.
Figure Skating Experts
Former Olympic skater Akiko Suzuki (returning for the second season) choreographed the skating routines in the first season, in collaboration with retired figure skater Yuhana Yokoi and active competitive figure skater Hinano Isobe.

Kodansha USA Publishing has licensed the Medalist manga and provides the following synopsis: "Tsukasa, whose dreams were crushed. Inori, left to fend for herself. These two share a dream...and their tenacity may be the only thing that sees them through. Their destination? The ice...on the world's stage!"
Manga Publication
Tsurumaikada launched the Medalist manga in Kodansha's Afternoon magazine in May 2020. The 14th compiled book volume was published on January 22.
Awards and Recognition
The manga has received critical acclaim, winning in the Best General Manga category of the 68th Shogakukan Manga Awards in 2023. It also won Best General Manga at Kodansha's 48th annual Manga Awards in May 2024.
