Flag Pictures has revealed two new additions to the cast of the live-action film adaptation of Yuu Saiki's popular manga, "Yamaguchi-kun Isn't So Bad." The film is set to bring the heartwarming story of Satsuki Shinohara and Yamaguchi-kun to life on the big screen.
Hikaru Takahashi as Satsuki Shinohara
Hikaru Takahashi, known for her previous roles in various films and television dramas, will be portraying the character of Satsuki Shinohara. Satsuki is the shy high school student who finds herself drawn to Yamaguchi-kun, determined to see beyond his tough exterior.
Yoji Iwase as Rion Ishizaki
Joining the cast is Yoji Iwase, who will be playing the role of Rion Ishizaki. The details surrounding Ishizaki's character and his role in the film's narrative are currently under wraps.
Kyōhei Takahashi Leads as Yamaguchi
As previously announced, Kyōhei Takahashi, a member of the Naniwa Danshi idol group, will be taking on the lead role of Yamaguchi-kun. He is known as a "gangster" student.
Film Release Date and Production Team
The live-action film adaptation of "Yamaguchi-kun Isn't So Bad" is scheduled to premiere on June 5. Kentaro Moriya is directing the film. ASMIK Ace will be handling the distribution.
Manga's Storyline
The manga series, "Yamaguchi-kun Isn't So Bad," tells the story of Satsuki Shinohara, a shy high school student whose plans for a smooth high school debut are disrupted when she encounters a pervert on the train. She is rescued by Yamaguchi-kun, a student with a reputation as a "gangster." Despite Yamaguchi-kun's attempts to distance himself, Satsuki is determined to get to know him better. She wants to prove that there is more to him than meets the eye.
Manga's Publication History
Yuu Saiki launched the "Yamaguchi-kun Isn't So Bad" manga in Bessatsu Friend in 2019. The manga went on hiatus in June 2022 due to the author's pregnancy but resumed in July 2023. The series then shifted to a bi-monthly release schedule. Kodansha published the manga's 12th compiled book volume on December 12. The manga has over 2.1 million copies in circulation in Japan. Kodansha USA Publishing released the 11th volume in English on October 21.
