The Blood Blooms in the Barrens Manga Adaptation Nears Conclusion

Ikumi Fukudas manga adaptation of Ryo Tsukimuras novel, The Blood Blooms in the Barrens (Dobaku no Hana), is set to conclude in its next chapter. The announcement came in the March issue of Shonengahoshas Young King Ours magazine, released on January 30. Fans will have to wait a bit longer for the finale, as the manga will be taking a one-issue break and will not be featured in the magazines April issue, scheduled for release on February 28.

A Tale of Survival and Brotherhood

The manga, available in English through Orange Inc.s e-bookstore service emaqi, tells a gripping story of Japanese soldiers in a perilous situation. The narrative follows elite paratroopers from Japans First Airborne Brigade as they face an ambush during a search and rescue mission near the Somali border. The arrival of a woman fleeing a civil war seeking refuge in their camp ignites a desperate battle for survival. The story highlights the strong bonds of brotherhood and unwavering dedication among the soldiers as they strive to protect the innocent and escape the dangerous situation alive.

Manga's Journey and Author's Background

The Blood Blooms in the Barrens manga launched in Young King Ours in 2021. Shonengahosha published the mangas fifth compiled book volume in January 2025. The artist behind the manga, Ikumi Fukuda, is a penname of Kotteri, the author of the Veil manga. Kotteris Veil manga began serialization in Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha, Ltd.s Comic Ruelle magazine in 2019, with its fifth volume released in December 2022. Mangasplaining podcast and Udon Entertainment jointly release the Veil manga in English.

The Original Novel and Creator's Diverse Works

Ryo Tsukimuras original novel was first serialized in Gentoshas papyrus magazine from February to August 2014. Gentosha published the novels print volume in September 2014. Beyond novels, Tsukimura has also contributed to the anime world, writing scripts for popular series such as Tenchi Universe, UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie, Revolutionary Girl Utena, and Kikou Keisatsu Metal Jack. Notably, Tsukimura and Hiroki Hayashi are the original creators of the El Hazard anime series.
